Looking for a fun way to spend a r-a-i-n-y summer afternoon? Pick up a copy of Spellbound. This documentary follows the lives of eight brainy kids preparing to go head-to-head with Webster's Dictionary at the 1999 National Spelling Bee. In his first film after graduating from USC, Jeff Blitz reveals a piece of America long since upstaged by truancy and video game addiction. These children, aged 10 to 14, see the Bee as an opportunity to challenge themselves and not, as one might assume, to please overbearing parents.

It’s AD 79. Somewhere in a dark, dusty corner of Pompeii, a man toils madly by firelight. Ingenuity, foresight and curiosity culminate into one single moment that was to forever alter our lives - the speculum was born. Men praised the vast potential of this innovative product. Few noticed the design was a little rough around the edges. Literally.

On a dark and stormy night while driving home from work, criminal psychologist Dr. Miranda Grey (Halle Berry) has a terrifying encounter with a mysterious young girl. The next thing she knows, she wakes up in the same mental asylum where she works, with no memory of the murder of her husband, Dr. Douglas Grey (Charles S. Dutton), of which she has been accused. As she tries to regain her memory and prove her innocence, she becomes a conduit of the spirit world, plummeting her into a realm of madness and delusion. Penélope Cruz stars as one of Miranda’s patients who is assaulted nightly by what she believes to be Satan, and Robert Downey Jr. stars as the flirtatious and scrutinizing co-worker assigned to Miranda’s case.

I was not only honoured but also excited when asked to write an article dealing with two of my three of favourite pastimes: travel and reading. I don't just enjoy reading; I make sure I have a book with me almost everywhere I go. I wouldn't want to waste any time by not reading should I ever be stranded or delayed in my daily routine. Naturally, you can find books or other stimulating reading materials in every room of my house.
